How to Persuade Shopify Customers to Complete Abandoned Carts

Abandoned cart reminders are working extremely well. We have been hearing from Shopify stores that are getting up to 10,000% ROI. Maybe not every store can achieve this, we want to share some recommendations on how to improve and maximize your revenue using the Abandoned Cart reminders in SMSBump.
 

Enable Abandoned Cart Automations


1. Go to Automations and set these entries to Active.
 

  • Abandoned Cart after 1 hour
  • Abandoned Cart after 10 hours
  • Abandoned Cart after 1 day



 

Abandoned Cart After 1 hour


1. Click the Edit button on the Abandoned Cart after 1 hour automation.


2. Scroll all the way down to the Text field. There is a default recommended message:
 


{SiteName}: Hello, {FirstName}. We noticed there were some items left in your shopping cart If you're ready to complete your order, your cart is waiting for your return at {AbandonedCheckoutUrl}




 

It is very important to send every message with {SiteName} in the beginning so the client quickly remembers where they are getting the message from.

3. After you create your message, make sure to enable the Add STOP#### to opt out option on the top right corner of the text field.


 

4. Confirm the changes by clicking the Save button at the bottom.

Abandoned Cart After 10 hours

1. Click the Edit button on the Abandoned Cart after 10 hours automation.


 

2. Scroll down to the Text field. The message we recommend here needs to have a discount code in order to help clients complete their order. Here is a sample message:
 


{SiteName}: DISCOUNT UNLOCKED!! Hey, {FirstName}. We still have your cart saved. Grab 5% off on your order available {AbandonedCheckoutUrl} STOP12160 to opt out



Important: We recommend giving a discount code in the second reminder so your customers feel special. Don’t give a very big discount code just yet. Also, don’t forget to have the opt-out option enabled.

When your message is ready, you need to add the discount code to the checkout link. Select the Add discount code checkbox on the bottom left of the text field. This will trigger a pop up with all your available Shopify discount codes.

4. Select the discount code you want to use from the dropdown and click Apply discount code.


 

5. Once the discount code is applied it will be displayed in brackets. The discount code gets automatically applied when the customer clicks your checkout link.

No need for the customer to enter the code.


 

6. Confirm the changes by clicking the Save button at the bottom.


 

Abandoned Cart Reminder after 1 Day

1. Click the Edit button on the Abandoned Cart after 1 day automation.


 

2. Scroll down to the Text field. The message we recommend here has a discount code to give customers an incentive to complete their purchase. Here is a sample message:
 


{SiteName} Hey, {FirstName}. Looks like you are still on the fence with your order. Here is a little extra 10% off. Use code TEXT10. {AbandonedCheckoutUrl}



​In the last reminder, you want to give the best offer you have. You also display the discount code in the text message as a reassurance the customer will see it.

3. Repeat the steps above for adding a discount code to the link and Save the automation.
